Are you looking for ways to connect with fellow NJSWEP members and become more involved in the organization?
We have several committees that are integral to our success and offer the opportunity to contribute as much – or as little – of your skills and time as you’d like.
NJSWEP members are the true heart of our organization! The more members we have the more successful our events, the more valuable the networking, and the more powerful our efforts to promote women within the environmental industry. By joining the Membership Committee, you have the special opportunity to engage with our current members and to encourage those who are not yet members to become a part of this amazing group of professionals. Membership outreach tasks could include planning new member luncheons or coffee breaks, “bring a new friend” events for our current members, annual membership renewal drives, addressing membership questions, and coordinating with SWEP of Greater Philadelphia on joint member projects. Membership Committee members may team with other NJSWEP committee members at events, such as joining our scholarship committee in the fall while visiting local colleges to promote our organization to environmental students and emerging professionals. If you are interested in joining the NJSWEP Membership Committee, please contact the Committee Chair, Ashley Fehn at email@example.com.
Whether you have a great idea for a one-time event that you would like to make happen or are interested in helping to develop, organize, coordinate, and/or market our regular calendar of events, the Program Committee is your opportunity to help shape NJSWEP. Our events and programs are our core function and are integral to the success of NJSWEP. The programs can be either educational, technical, and/or social, to provide attendees with an outlet to embrace personal and professional development. For more information or to join the Program Committee, please contact the Committee Chair, Stephanie Turkot, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The MetroNet Committee of NJSWEP caters to the members and supporters of NJSWEP in the North Jersey and New York Metro area. The committee coordinates and plans networking, educational, and social and events. Recent events have included various networking receptionsin New York City and northern New Jersey; a hike through the South Mountain Reservation in Millburn, NJ; a New York State Brownfield Cleanup Program Regulatory Update in New York City; and the Hackensack Riverkeeper Sunset Eco Tour. If you have an idea for a future MetroNet event, or if your company is interested in sponsoring a future event, or if you want to get involved in the committee, please contact the Committee Chair, Ilkay Cam-Spanos, at email@example.com.
The Gala Committee is responsible for planning the annual NJSWEP Gala, our premier event of the year. The Gala celebrates women who have made a significant contribution to the environmental community with the Growing Great Women in the Garden State Award. The Gala also celebrates future environmental professionals with the presentation of NJSWEP’s annual scholarship awards. The Gala Committee is responsible for soliciting nominations for the Growing Great Women award, selecting the recipient, scouting the Gala venue, and planning all details of the events, including the event program, invitations, registration, menu, décor, favors, and designing the award. Certain committee members will serve as liaisons with the award recipient, the scholarship committee, and the sponsorship committee. If you would like to help plan this annual event, please contact the Gala Chair, Lauren Sutton at firstname.lastname@example.org.
NJSWEP offers annual scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in the environmental field. As a member of the Scholarships Committee, you will be involved in outreach to New Jersey colleges to promote our organization and the scholarships program to environmental students and young professionals. You will have the opportunity to review applications submitted by potential candidates, conduct candidate interviews, provide recommendations, and participate in the selection of award winners. If you are interested in joining the Scholarships Committee, please contact our Scholarship Committee Chair, Kate Suell, at email@example.com.
By joining our brand new Sponsorships Committee, you will be actively involved in outreach to environmental firms, laboratories, and law firms to promote our organization, and solicit sponsorship for various special events that we host throughout the year (e.g., the annual Gala). You will also be assisting in efforts to obtain sponsorships for the organization, in addition to event sponsorship. If you are outgoing, and think you will enjoy this opportunity to informally interact and network with your fellow environmental professionals, please reach out to NJSWEP Co-Chair, Kavitha Subramaniam, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The News Committee members take pictures and write short summaries of NJSWEP events to be published on the NJSWEP website and sent out through email blasts. The committee also uses our website and email blasts to apprise members of news, upcoming NJSWEP events, and other events that may be of interest to NJSWEP members. In addition, the committee prepares a year-in-review email that gets sent to NJSWEP members in December and serves to document the history of NJSWEP. If you are interested in promoting, photographing, or documenting NJSWEP events, or sharing your editorial skills, please contact our News Committee Chair, Kelly McCormick, at email@example.com.
