Opportunities for Involvement
Are you looking for ways to connect with fellow NJSWEP members and become more involved in the organization?
We have several committees that are integral to our success and offer the opportunity to contribute your skills and time to support the continued growth and development of NJSWEP.
Membership Committee
NJSWEP members are the true heart of our organization! The more members we have, the more successful our events, the more valuable the networking, and the more powerful our efforts to promote women within the environmental industry. By joining the Membership Committee, you have the special opportunity to engage with our current members and to encourage those who are not yet members to become a part of this amazing group of professionals. Membership outreach tasks could include planning new member luncheons or coffee breaks, annual membership renewal drives, addressing membership questions, and coordinating with other organizations on joint member projects. Program Committee
Whether you have a great idea for a one-time event that you would like to make happen or are interested in helping to develop, organize, coordinate, and/or market our regular calendar of events, the Program Committee is your opportunity to help shape NJSWEP. Our events and programs are our core function and are integral to the success of NJSWEP. The programs can be either educational, technical, and/or social to provide attendees with an outlet to embrace personal and professional development. Scholarship Committee
NJSWEP offers annual scholarships to students pursuing degrees in the environmental field. As a member of the Scholarship Committee, you will be involved in outreach to New Jersey colleges to promote our organization and the scholarships program to environmental students and young professionals. You will have the opportunity to review applications submitted by potential candidates, conduct candidate interviews, provide recommendations, and participate in the selection of award winners. Gala Committee
The Gala Committee is responsible for planning the annual NJSWEP Gala, our premier event of the year. The Gala celebrates women who have made a significant contribution to the environmental community with the Growing Great Women in the Garden State Award. The Gala also celebrates future environmental professionals with the presentation of NJSWEP’s annual scholarship awards. The Gala Committee is responsible for soliciting nominations for the Growing Great Women award, selecting the recipient, scouting the Gala venue, and planning all details of the events, including the event program, invitations, registration, menu, décor, favors, and designing the award. Certain committee members will serve as liaisons with the award recipient, the scholarship committee, and the sponsorship committee. Sponsorship Committee
By joining our brand new Sponsorships Committee, you will be actively involved in outreach to environmental firms, laboratories, and law firms to promote our organization, and solicit sponsorship for various special events that we host throughout the year (e.g., the annual Gala). You will also be assisting in efforts to obtain sponsorships for the organization, in addition to event sponsorship. If you are outgoing, and think you will enjoy this opportunity to informally interact and network with your fellow environmental professionals, please reach out to the sponsorship committee at sponsorship@njswep.org.
Golf Event Committee
Our Golf Event Committee Members serves as NJSWEP’s representatives to the joint NJSWEP-LSRPA Committee responsible for planning our annual Golf Networking Event. Representatives meet regularly to discuss the process for planning the event, and have successfully executed an amazing event for several years running. If you’re looking for an opportunity to work on event planning in a truly collaborative environment together with colleagues from the LSRPA, this is the Committee for you. Battle of the Bands
This event is planned for Spring of 2023, and we are still looking for volunteers to work together with the LSRPA on organizing. If you’re interested in becoming involved or in volunteering your musical skills please reach out to battleofthebands@njswep.org.
Sponsorship Committee
By joining our Sponsorship Committee, you will be actively involved in outreach to environmental firms, laboratories, and law firms to promote our organization and solicit sponsorship for various special events that we host throughout the year (e.g., the annual Gala). If you would like to interact and network with your fellow environmental professionals, please reach out to the sponsorship committee at sponsorship@njswep.org.
Social Media and News Committee
The Social Media and News Committee members market and advertise NJSWEP events on the NJSWEP website, NJSWEP social media pages, and email blasts. The Committee also uses social media (LinkedIn, Facebook) our website and email blasts to apprise members of news, upcoming NJSWEP events, and other events. In addition, the committee prepares a year-in-review that celebrates our accomplishments from the year and serves to document the history of NJSWEP. If you are interested in promoting, photographing, or documenting NJSWEP events, or sharing your editorial skills, please contact our Social Media and News Committee Chair(s), at news@njswep.org.
Liaisons
If you are an NJSWEP member who is also an employee of the EPA or NJDEP or if you are a member of the LSRPA, a liaison position might be for you! Our liaisons are key positions in the organization that serve to keep NJSWEP’s Steering Committee apprised of key goings-on in these organizations and also serve as important point-people facilitating NJSWEP’s coordination of joint events.
